Dear ladies, we’re a part of the 21st century which is a much more bigger and greater industrially revolutionized society as compared to the previous times. The modern times have facilitated us with various amounts of things along with the help of science and the success of modern technology. Back in those times who would imagine travelling through an airplane from one country to another within a few hours? Secondly, who would’ve thought about crossing the oceans, deserts and going past any geographical limitation without any trouble or hindrance? Moreover, would the people who used to travel tons of kilometers just to reach to a telephone office in order to make a phone call ever imagine that there will be a world when the entire globe would be on one’s finger tips surrounded by the horizon of a small smart phone? The answer is probably no but the evolution of science and modern technology has changed that no into a definite yes! Yes, there is a world where you can talk, see and chat with loved ones living a million miles apart, where you can travel from one continent to another in a matter of a few hours and where you can get to know regarding the next 10 days weather forecast by browsing through your phone.
Similarly, since the world is changing; simultaneously people’s living standards have changed too. Women are no more limited to the house but are now even the bread earners of the family. So in order to meet the needs of such working women, the commercial industries have come up with modern electronics which just by being present in your kitchen can make your life a whole lot easier by saving your time and energy. Some of them are listed below.
Usually most of the mums ask their children not to drink from anyone else’s water bottle in school, never to drink tap water and only drink mineral water. This works along with, all of the mommies aiming to cook fat burning foods at home so that the family remains healthy and doesn’t face obesity. So mommies, if all of you are so conscious about your family’s eating habit and ensure that they eat and drink healthy then you should definitely include a water purifier as an essential part of your kitchen appliances. However, they come in various shapes and sizes but you should buy the one which suits the place at your house where you plan to install it i.e. fitting in the space over there. Moreover, always go for a purifier which doesn’t need much maintenance but gives an efficient performance. Furthermore, water purifier is known to,
If I’d enter a room full of women and ask them that which is one household chore that they dislike doing the most, a unanimous answer would be dish washing. However, different ladies have different reasons behind it, some are allergic to dish washing soaps, others feel that the palm of their hands get stiff and hard if they regularly wash dishes whilst others would just complain of being busy the whole day because of work and then not having the energy to wash all the dishes once they’re back home. So a simple solution to this issue has been offered in the form of a dish washer. All you’re required to do is,
To all you coffee lovers, students who need coffee in order to stay up and study and those who start their morning with coffee. An easy way out for you to make coffee if you’re tired and don’t like making it yourself isn’t just asking your mother or sister to make it for you but having a coffee maker at home which will do the same work for you much more efficiently. A coffee maker brews coffee and prepares it within no time while you sit there and enjoy your cup with your favorite cookies once it’s done. But remember to,
A trio peeler helps when one is preparing fat burning foods which require the peeling of vegetables in order to boil or steam them. You would either peel them before boiling or afterwards, however whenever you wish to do so a trio peeler will be there at rescue! This is an appliance which has a three in one tool that has rotating blades which proficiently and very smoothly peel off hard skins, soft one’s and even julienne. You’d probably need this in your kitchen to peel off,
I know most of the mommies can relate with the struggle they have to through while heating the toasts at breakfast. At times they get too stiff or even burnt and once burn then the toast goes to waste. So an easy way out to this is by buying a toaster which will end up by providing you with a warmer, crispier and stiff edged toast. However, the elements of a good toaster which you should make sure are there in your toaster too are,
The world and its news is become extremely negative. It is very hard to switch to a news channel at the end of a very tiring day. We are very well aware of the violence, hyper sensitization of remarks, and greed to grab someone else’ life which takes place everyday and all this negativity happily covers the prime time on every news channel. There is very little positive energy being passed around. With an overdoes of these negative thoughts and with an overall sentiment of disgust I began to look for something positive on the internet which I was about to sleep. I stumbled upon some brilliant videos on You Tube of some budding stand up comedians. The content is shockingly very thought provoking, much more sense being made here than the time spent watching the crazy debates we have on our Indian National News Channels. Comedy is known to be positive and I am sure the compilation below will make you feel much better.
Another passing thought was, that it is a great feeling to see that we have so many of these elegant stand up comedians cropping up. I have grown up watching Seinfeld and Russel Peter videos. To find somebody performing this well and in your city is an amazing feeling. There is a very positive feeling that there are great things to come in this fecund space.
Well one thought is leading to another, I am pretty sure this would be the final one. I don’t believe the shows we see on television like the Comedy Nights franchise are a true representation of the Indian Stand Up Comedy scene. The jokes are always forcibly bordered on vulgarity, sort of hypocritically. The audience is literally poked to laugh on certain occasions. The actual punches are too few to be found, the rest of the time the audience has an overacting cast forced down its throat and made to laugh.
This is the video I first watched of Daniel Fernandes, slowly to find out that this just one the quality acts he has delivered. The best part and something that may sting while you take off those headphones is the punch which Daniel finally delivers “You guys are giving me your money and you guys go back to your job which you hate all because you study too hard. This is poetic”
To be honest, I found this on facebook and noted it down in Google Keep, I tried hunting down the original author, however I could not find one. I find the worlds really inspirational and simple. We are born and bred in a world where confrontation is the key, where we step out of cars to jump into road rage. We are always re-enforced to stand up, obstruct and fight, when may be there is no fight required. May it is just a hot head waiting to get into a confrontation.
I have encountered this many a time in office, when my blood boils and I see injustice, my thinking goes askew and it is all driven by rage. All what is required is a ‘Walk’ to get that blood pressure under control and bring sense and perspective back into the picture. Here are some very precious words which will stand the test of time.
from arguments that lead you to nowhere but anger.
from people who delebrately put you down.
from any thought that reduces your worth.
from failures and fears that striffle your dreams.
The more you ‘Walk Away’ from things that poison your soul, the happier your life would be.
Walking is the best exercise.
Gift Yourself A Walk Towards Happiness…!!!
With all the Halloween festivities going around, and coming from a country like India where Halloween is not part of our culture, I was absolutely clueless about the activities taking place. More or less, it seemed to be like a great time to have a costume party and spook the crap out of others. The festivities seem to have a wide commercial significance with all the super markets and shopping malls going the extreme mile to get ready for just this one day. All I could conclude was that it is has a very strong festive significance in Europe and America with all my friends and colleagues putting their best foot forward to get spooky.
As I was going through the super market the week before Halloween I found that pumpkins have replaced the beer in the first aisle. We all have obviously seen the well crafted pumpkins being used as a part of the celebrations. Well it was about time we know why the pumpkins are actually used.
Primarily Halloween is celebrated on 31st October which is the eve of All Saints Day, hence the name All Hallow’s Eve or All Saints Eve which is also known as Halloween.
The British can claim ownership of the original use of the phrase “jack-o’-lantern.” In the 17th century, it referred to a night watchman, a man who literally carried a lantern. (Jack has been a general term for a boy since the 16th century.) But it was also a nickname for strange, flickering lights seen at night over wetlands or peat bogs and mistaken to be fairies or ghosts. This natural phenomenon is also called ignis fatuus, which means “foolish fire,” and will-o’-the-wisp. (Reference : http://blog.dictionary.com/jack-o-lantern/)
Well I am just trying to find a nice story to origin of the Jack-o’-Lantern. And this is one of the witty ones I found.
“On route home after a night’s drinking, Jack encounters the Devil and tricks him into climbing a tree. A quick-thinking Jack etches the sign of the cross into the bark, thus trapping the Devil. Jack strikes a bargain that Satan can never claim his soul. After a life of sin, drink, and mendacity, Jack is refused entry to heaven when he dies. Keeping his promise, the Devil refuses to let Jack into hell and throws a live coal straight from the fires of hell at him. It was a cold night, so Jack places the coal in a hollowed out turnip to stop it from going out, since which time Jack and his lantern have been roaming looking for a place to rest.” (Reference : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stingy_Jack)
This was an Irish folklore where the Jack-o’-Latern primarily represents a soul denied entry from heaven and from hell.
As I am wrapping up my stay in the Southern coast of UK, I am trying to enjoy some of the best things it has offered me. Hence I decided yesterday was the day I am going to break away from my leafy diet and go across to enjoy some of the good food this place has been introduced to me.
When I first came across these so called fast food joints in Portsmouth, they looked very similar to Shawarma joints back in the Middle East, places like Kuwait where I have earlier been. They were exactly similar in all aspects, however the final product is nearly five to ten degrees away from each other.
Shawarma is a meat preparation. Meats involved are lamb, chicken, turkey, beef or veal (tender meat from young cattle). Turkey is meat something I have never seen in the shawarma form, ( I am trusting wikipedia for that piece of information). Mixed meats are kept on a vertical spit and grilled all the day. You can literally see the meat getting awesomely grilled and fat dripping down. It is hard to explain what a veritcal spit looks like, I rather just post a picture and you will get the idea.
The image represents the vertical spit on which the meat is roasted. Meat Shavings are cut off the vertical block of meat for serving, and the remainder of the block of meat is kept heated on the rotating spit. It is served on a plate (generally with accompaniments), shawarma also refers to a sandwich or wrap made with shawarma meat, which is amazingly tasty with some special ingredients, which I am clueless as to what they ever were. Some really amazing herbs. Only one of the ingredients which I recall is tahini which is made from ground, hulled sesame seeds. Tahina is a verb in Arabic which means “to grind”
Going back to my original point, so out here in Portsmouth due to a pre dominant Turkish presence you have a lot of these Kebab joints run by people having Turkish origin. They are always kind and generous and never compromise on quality or quantity. Sandwiches are hard to find out here (in comparison to the Middle East experience), it is mainly meat shavings served in pitta bread with possibly a combination of shish if you like.
The meat shavings which contribute to a nice neat sandwich or snack or a meal in the Middle East, is treated more like junk food to be enjoyed after a night of clubbing and dancing. Most of the kebab corners are strategically positioned near clubs and discos, to provide a sumptuous meal to all those who are barely in their senses.
In the month of December, Christians all over the world prepare themselves spiritually for the birth of Jesus Christ. This special period of anticipation and hope is known as Advent. People spend this season in prayer, fasting and repentance.
The word ‘advent’ is derived from the Latin word ‘adventus’, which indicates ‘arrival of someone very special’.
Advent starts on the fourth Sunday before 25th December. This year it started on 2nd December 2012 and will continue till 24th December 2012. It marks the beginning of the church year.
Advent is about recollecting the aspirations of ancient people and recognizing how the promises of the Old Testament were fulfilled by God by sending his only son to this world. During this season Christians thank God for Christ’s birth in Bethlehem. They also thank him for Christ’s continued presence in the Holy Sacrament. Above all, they look forward to his second arrival at the end of time.
Christians started observing Advent, after the 4th century, as a preparation for Epiphany, a feast celebrating the revelation of the divine nature of Jesus. At that time new Christians were received into the faith and hence, the church introduced a period of fasting and repentance.
Later, in the 6th century, the season of Advent was linked to the second coming of Christ. Subsequently, Christmas was also integrated into this season.
However, December month is exclusively reserved for the preparation of Christmas parties and colourful celebrations. No wonder, people easily forget the true spirit of Advent, and concentrate totally on approaching Christmas and all festivities associated with it.
It is the year which takes the tally to 60, 60 years on the throne for the Queen of England. Celebrations are constantly erupting across the country, however the main celebrations are targeted for June 2nd, 3rd,4th and 5th which is also a long weekend (2nd-Saturday to 5th Tuesday). So get planning to make the best use of the weekend.
Before we start celebrating I think it will be obligatory to know what we are celebrating and its significance. The Queen’s reign all began on 6 February 1952 ( her coronation took place on 2 June 1953). Preceding this celebration was the Silver Jubilee in 1977 and the Golden Jubilee in 2002.
Elizabeth was the first child of Prince Albert, Duke of York who then went on to become King George VI after his elder brother Edward was abdicated from the throne. This entire episode is best shown in the movie “The King’s Speech”. King George VI also happened to be the last Emperor of India. The reign all started in early 1952, when Princess Elizabeth and Philip Mountbatten, Duke of Edinburgh had then set out for a tour of Australia and New Zealand via Kenya. On 6 February 1952, when they returned to their Kenyan home, Sagana Lodge, the news arrived of the death of Elizabeth’s father. The Queen’s husband Philip broke the news to the new queen. When Martin Charteris, her private secretary asked the Queen to choose a regnal (formal) name; she decided to retain Elizabeth.
Right until this day Elizabeth II is the constitutional monarch of 16 sovereign states, also known as the Commonwealth realms and they are as follows,
This is second longest run for a British monarch, and her majesty has seen it all.
Whether you are a politician, an athlete or a computer programmer, self confidence is a trait you must have in order to succeed and achieve results in your field. However, some people are not born with self confidence but build it over time. In this article we will give you several practical methods to build your self confidence easily and quickly.
The first step is to know your strengths. Make a list of the things you are good at, and the things you like about yourself that make you different. Read this list to yourself every day, and remind yourself that you have many wonderful traits that not many people share. Most of us simply become used to our good sides and forget that we are talented in many ways, each one in his own unique way. By reminding yourself your worth, you will start to feel better about yourself and your self-esteem will grow.
The second step is to fix your body language. 80% of the first impression you make, and the image people have about you in their mind is not based on your words but on your non-verbal cues. Your body language, tonality and eye contact all define how people will perceive you – so you must maintain strong and confident body language. Keep your back straight, maintain strong posture and keep your chin up – and you will gain self confidence easily and quickly.
There is a strong mind-body link here, so just by maintaining a strong body language – your mind will start to feel more confident and you will radiate assurance. Another step that helps you feel better about yourself is to do sports. Sport activity helps you produce endorphins that make you feel good, and you will also feel better about your body as a result. If you are a man, consider doing weight training as it increases your dominance, testosterone levels and make you stronger and more confident. People will perceive you as stronger and therefore you will also start to see yourself as stronger.
Another powerful point for more advanced use is NLP – Neuro Linguistic Programming. Start by imagining yourself as very confident, imagine how you would walk the world and how you would react to people when you are very confident and powerful. Do this exercise for 5-10 minutes each morning and you will see that your confidence levels begin to soar and rise. NLP is a powerful tool for changing character and improving yourself, and there are many more tricks in the NLP arsenal.
In conclusion, there are many ways to gain self confidence that you can use right now and improve your life.
Michael Williams is a writer dedicated to helping people gain self confidence and improve their lives.
Agent Vinod is a lame attempt to imitate Hollywood style. The sequence keeps giving hints of MI4. At one point the movie seems never ending. The first half is complicated and sometimes boring. Small parts are woven together, however the weaving is not smooth enough. It gets better in the second half and somewhat manages to bring the plot on track.
Agent Vinod is a secret agent, who has dedicated his life to taking risks and saving lives. He is on the secret mission of uncovering a network of terror groups. These terror groups are planning for a powerful nuclear bomb attack on a major city. The tale is all about Agent Vinod infiltrating and opposing in a bid to not let them succeed. The end is as expected but still keeps you guessing.
Saif hasn’t been able to impress much as a desi bond. Kareena is in an unusual role where she has very few dialogues, and thus forgotten after the movie. The songs are plus points of the movie. Finally the verdict, Hollywood lovers won’t find anything great about the movie, Bollywood lovers won’t find the ‘masala’ in the movie. Still if you like detective and adventurous screenplays, you may give it a try.
One of the most important things in life is motive. An MBA is no exception and the very first question a b-school interview is usually ‘Why do you wanna do a MBA?’. A person appearing for the interview should be very clear in his mind about his reasons for pursuing MBA, his ambitions and career goals. Once you are clear about your motives, you shall get an additional sense of confidence.
In today’s times when thinks of a post graduation, the only two choices that seem to exist are MBA or MS. Realize that your options are not limited. Many people give GMAT/CAT/XAT and similar entrance exams just because they see other people doing the same thing. This in itself is the biggest mistake. Figure out what u want to do rather than just following the herd. Following someone’s footsteps without a clear intention will ultimately lead to same question , ‘Why MBA?’.
Once decided then the next thing is to have a thorough knowledge of your graduation/post-graduation subjects. Along with the academics, what the interviewer wants to see that the person should be aware of his surroundings, his current job (if working), hometown, country, hobbies, parent’s occupation, current affairs etc (in general about as many things as possible).
Some colleges give you an year’s time to decide about further specialization in MBA like Finance, Marketing, Operations, Systems, IT and HR but there are some which ask about the specialization in interview itself. So, depending upon the requirements of the college, an interviewee should be prepared.
Last but not the least, interviewers may try to scare you or demoralize you during the interview but that’s just their tactic to check your confidence level and your ability to handle unfavourable situations. So never get demotivated and face the interview with a smile. Prepare yourself for stress interviews. Today its just for interviews, but tomorrow the skill might come handy, considering that its probably more difficult to survive in an IIM than just clearing the interview
This year, Christians, all over the world, will celebrate Easter Sunday on 8th April 2012.
It is believed that ancient Church clubbed the celebration of resurrection of Jesus with that of spring fertility festival. Thus, tradition of Easter Eggs became an integral part of Easter Sunday.
The entire Holy Week, which ends with Easter Sunday, can be summed up as remembrance of Passion, Death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ.
The passion of Christ begins with the Agony in the Garden. While Jesus was praying, one of his apostles named Judas, comes with the temple guards and betrays him with a kiss, for 30 pieces of silver.
After the arrest, Jesus was taken to the High Priest of the Jews, named Caiaphas. To a question by Caiaphas, Jesus replies that he is Son of God. Caiaphas considers this reply as blasphemy, and sends Jesus to Roman Governor, Pontius Pilate, to be condemned to death.
Not surprisingly, Pontius Pilate does not find any fault with Jesus. To avoid public wrath, Pilate sends Jesus to Herod, as Jesus was from the place called Nazareth ruled by Herod.
But, Herod sends Jesus back to Pontius Pilate. Pilate, after unsuccessfully trying to free Jesus, bows to the demand of assembled crowd and orders his crucifixion.
Jesus’ death on the cross turns out to be the beginning of all good things, with his triumphant rising on the third day (Sunday), and now celebrated as Easter.
After resurrection, Jesus appeared to his disciples may times during the next Forty days, and ascended into heaven.
Jesus suffered violent death in the hands of those wicked people. Even those in power, did not show any mercy to him, in spite of knowing fully that Jesus was innocent.
After the resurrection, Jesus could have easily tormented his tormentors in many ways. He could have, at least, done something to bring them to their senses. But, no, Jesus wasted no time for those resentful acts. Hence, the other side of the Easter never unfolded. And, Jesus accomplished his mission by conveying his message of peace loud and clear, which is the only radiant side of the Easter.

In Defense of Wall Mart
Suppose you are a young executive in your twenties in a big multinational. You have some extra cash and are planning to get married, buy a home, and decorate it with some nice furniture. Well there is some good news for you!! IKEA is coming to town and bringing in cheap, world class furniture which you can assemble all by yourself!! You can thank the Indian Parliament for this! Now suppose you are a poor minimum wage laborer with a family of six finding it hard to make ends meet. The inflation is cutting a big hole in your pocket and you could really use some cheap vegetables. Sorry bro, you have to go hungry or choose which one of your kids gets to go to school. And once again, you can thank the Indian Parliament for this!!
Big means Bad
For those of you who don’t know, last month the Indian Parliament blocked the entry of multi-brand retail stores like Walmart, which would have given consumers access to cheap food products and other essentials, while allowing single brand retail stores like IKEA which sell non-essentials like furniture at cheaper rates, to enter the Indian market. The driving logic is the fact that Walmart would drive the prices so low that the current sellers of essential commodities, your local Kirana wallas, would not be able to compete. It is so huge that it sells every variety of everything, its supply chain so good that it can deliver products equivalent to the demand, on time, consistently. It will employ far more people than it puts out of business. It will be a boon for this nation where farmers commit suicide because they are forced to sell food grains at low prices, where the consumers are starving because they can’t cope with the inflation, and middle men have grown so rich and powerful that they can get the politicians to act against the country’s interests. Walmart cuts off these middle men and provides goods to people at a cheaper rate. It is the best at what it does. Hence, it does not deserve to be in India.
Will of the Minority
One of the biggest threats that a democracy faces is the fact that the national policy gets hijacked by a vocal minority while the silent majority watches silently. It helps if the minority has considerable political leverage. This is precisely what has happened here. So who loses out if big retailers come in? The traders and middle men who account for barely 2-3% of the country’s population and who in many cases keep the prices low on the supply side and high on demand side and eat away the profits in the between. And who benefits if the retailers come in? The farmers, who account for roughly 65% of the population, because they will get paid more by the Walmart like companies as there are no middle men involved. And more importantly, the consumers, who account for 100% of the population, as they will get the same products with more variety and at lower prices!
How everyone can win
The argument for keeping big retailers out, which is small traders will lose out on their livelihood, flies in the face of logic. There are already many big retailers like Big Bazaar, D-Mart, Reliance fresh etc. in the market. If anything Walmart and the likes will have a tough time gaining a foothold in the country. Indian cities are immense with very little room for expansion. Some of our biggest cities have only enough space for 2 or 3 Walmart size stores. Not nearly enough to meet the demand. Plus on a day to day basis people will prefer to buy everyday commodities from the local stores than travel 30-40 minutes in traffic to the nearest mega store. Also Indian retailers will get a chance to study and learn better supply chain management from these foreign companies which will help them expand. These mega stores will also employ a large number of people, and tremendously improve and develop the basic infrastructure they need to function. Besides, Indian retail market is largely un-organized which not only allows many people to get away without paying their taxes but also lets child labor go unpunished. Allowing FDI in retail and subsequently improving our labor laws and land reforms will help this sector and many others get more organized.
In the name of Capitalism
Walmart started out small and then went on to become big by sheer ingenuity and constantly learning and improving to be one step ahead of their competitors. The reason they are so big is that they provide the consumers with something that others cannot. Their technique is better than everyone else’s technique. They make their competitors improve. Vilifying them for this reason is like vilifying the top ranker in the class by saying that he is so smart that he makes the laggards feel bad.
The Times Square Ball is a time ball dropped each year during the New Year’s Eve celebration in Times Square, Manhattan, New York City. The ball is made by Waterford Crystal and electric lights is raised to the top of a pole on the One Times Square building at 6:00 pm and then lowered to mark the coming of the New Year.
The ball descends 77 feet (23 m) over the course of a minute, coming to rest at the bottom of its pole at midnight, and a sign lights up with the digits of the new year, as the ball’s lights turn off. Toshiba’s Times Square advertising screen directly below the ball counts down to midnight as well alongside several other billboards in the area.
Every year up to one million people gather in Times Square to watch the ball drop, and an estimated 1 billion watch the video of the event, 100 million of them in the United States.
The first New Year’s Eve celebration in the area was held in 1904. The New York Times newspaper had opened their new headquarters on Longacre Square (the city’s second tallest building), and persuaded the city to rename the triangular “square” surrounding it for the newspaper. The newspaper’s owner, Adolph Ochs, decided to celebrate the move with a midnight fireworks show on the building for New Year’s Eve. Close to 200,000 attended the event, displacing celebrations held at Trinity Church.
However, Adolph wanted a bigger spectacular at the building to draw more attention to the square — in 1907, the paper’s chief electrician Walter F. Palmer constructed a lit ball that would be lowered from a flagpole at One Times Square. It was constructed with iron and wood, was lit with one hundred 25-watt bulbs, weighed 700 pounds (320 kg) and measured 5 feet (1.5 m) in diameter. At first, it dropped 1 second after midnight. Even after the Times moved its headquarters to 229 W. 43rd St., the celebration continued.
In honor of the Ball Drop’s 100th anniversary, another new ball debuted for 2008. While still manufactured by Waterford Crystal (and weighing 1,212 pounds (550 kg)), it now uses LED lighting provided by Philips (which can produce over 16.7 million colors, and programmed for more advanced patterns and effects, designed by local firm Focus Lighting) instead of halogen bulbs. The ball features 9,567 energy-efficient bulbs that consume the same amount of electricity as only ten toasters. For 2009, the design was maintained as a icosahedral geodesic sphere, but doubled in size to 12 feet (3.7 m) in diameter with a weight of 11,875 pounds (5,386 kg). To accommodate the new ball (which is also now displayed year-round), the flagpole atop of One Times Square was rebuilt and enlarged, now rising 475 feet (145 m) above Times Square.
Sound effects during the countdown debuted in 1998. Every year had different sound effects except for 1999-2000 and 2000-2001 ball drops, which used the same exact sounds. The current clock-ticking debuted in 2003 and has been used since then for every single countdown.
