All throughout history, music has played a prominent role in society and gatherings of people taking pleasure in music have been recorded for hundreds of years. In the more recent years these gatherings have been in the form of festivals and concerts. They happen all over the world and attract thousands of people at a time. In this interesting article we look at the top 5 largest concerts and festivals of all time.
5. Summer Jam at Watkins Glen
This massive concert held in New York attracted a staggering 600, 000 people and the rock movement was in full swing. It was one of the largest concerts in history and in the time of peace and happiness, naked women adorned the grand prix circuit where it was held. Planes fell overhead with one skydiver actually losing his life while performing a stunt with explosives; this somehow did not taint the event.
4. Steve Wozniak’s US festival
In 1983, the co-founder of Apple, Steve Wozniak threw a massive festival and one of the largest concerts of all time with over 670,000 attendants. He wanted to give back to the society that had added to his wealth and threw both a festival and a technology event. The concert offered a country music day and some of the biggest names at the time like David Bowie and U2 performed.
3. Garth Brooks in Central park
Country singing legend Garth Brook’s concert in New York pulled an astounding 750,000 people. He has been one of the only performers allowed to have a concert in Central Park and the show was free to anyone who wanted to go, possibly explaining the staggering number of people for a musical genre that may not be that popular in that state. 2. The New York Philharmonic
The famous New York Philharmonic is renowned for their classical musical skills and playing to massive audiences. New York’s Central Park has already been listed and this show, the second largest concert ever, attracted 800,000 people! During the weekend of the concert New Yorkers were celebrating Statue of Liberty weekend and the concert fell under some of the celebrations. This classical concert is the largest one to ever take place.
1. Rod Stewart at Copacabana
This impressive concert is the largest concert of all time attracting an insane 3.5 million people! On New Year’s Eve in 1994 the people of Rio de Janeiro were treated to a spectacular show by Rod Stewart. The massive concert was held at Copacabana Beach where millions of people jammed to some of his greatest hits. Not only is this the largest concert in history, recorded on the Guinness Book of World Records but is was also free. Rob gave back so kindly to the poorest of communities.
