London 2012 Olympic Games, popularly known as 2012 Summer Olympic Games, will be held in London from 27^th July to 12^th August, 2012.  Thus, London will earn the distinction of hosting the modern Olympic Games for the third time.  The previous two occasions were in 1908 and 1948.

London was selected for the Olympic Games through bidding process during the 117^th IOC meeting held on 6^th July 2005 in Singapore.  Other contenders were Moscow, New York, Madrid and Paris.

Around 8 million tickets were made available for the Olympic Games. The website for the sale of tickets was opened on 15^th March 2011.  Ticket prices vary from £20 for a single event to £2,012 for the special seats at the inauguration ceremony.  Demand for the tickets was huge.

Although unintended, the 2012 Olympic Games will take place during the month of Ramadan (20^th July to 19^th August 2012), which is disadvantageous for Muslim athletes, who fast from dawn to dusk during the Holy month.  Hence, many Muslim countries have appealed to reschedule the Olympic Games.

Around 13,500 armed forces and 10,000 police will cover the security of the Games. That apart, Naval ships, fighter jets and missiles will be in place to counter any potential security threat.  The total cost of security cover is estimated to be around 553 million sterling pounds.

With flawless arrangements and meticulous planning, 2012 Olympic Games will turn out to be most spectacular and memorable world event.
