Google swallows new companies for Google+!
Google has started swallowing new start-ups and from the looks of it, Google might plan to incorporate its new acquisitions in Google+
The new acquisitions are PittPatt – A facial recognition system for photos and videos and Fridge – A group communication tool with photo-sharing and event-planning features
PittPatt stands for Pittsburg Pattern Recognition and is a project developed by three PhD graduates from Carnegie Mellon University.It specializes in facial recognition that can be used for both, basic face detection and live face tracking during live photo and video capture. The company basically develops algorithms that can detect human faces in photos and can track human movement in videos.

Facebook already has a similar recognition system which suggests tags to users through facial recognition. However it faced some privacy issues. You can read about it here and here . It’ll be interesting to see what Google finally decides to do with PittPatt. It could either integrate it in Google+ and face the same issues Facebook got into OR it could embed it in Android and use it there somehow.
The other acquisition is New York-based Fridge, which offered a simple and pretty group communication tool with photo-sharing and event-planning features. Fridge currently has 40,000 monthly visits. More than 20,000 groups have been formed, where users can share videos, instant messages, pictures, polls and events with close friends.

Fridge has some great features as listed here. I’d love to see Some of these features in G+. For example the functionality to SMS everyone in a particular circle or to email everyone in a circle. Fridge also features group events and polls. An interesting feature is to have different profile name for each circle. Cool when you have nicks within your group!
